Despite Colombian President Gustavo Petro’s statements about suspending defense and security relations with Israel in March 2024, the South American country has signed a new defense contract with the Hebrew nation.

According to Infodefensa.com, the Colombian government has sealed an agreement (contract No. 260-00-A-Cofac-Codaf-2024) with the Israeli company Israel Aerospace Industry (IAI). The technical specialist in this type of process, Alex Carrillo, assures that the contract reaches 7,199,455 dollars.

The purpose of the contract is the provision of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance services for the IAI Kfir C10/!2 COA aircraft of the Colombian Aerospace Force (FAC), with a start date of December 27, 2024 and an execution deadline of July 30, 2026.

It is worth mentioning that despite President Gustavo Petro’s statements about not signing contracts with Israeli companies, the FAC has signed them with the prior approval of the Colombian president. In this way, it is evident that the anti-Israeli position on defense issues has never had a practical application, as a result of the assistance that that nation provides to Colombia in the areas of defense, security, and intelligence.
